Our Review
John and Melissa Innes moved to Coonawarra intending, in John’s words, to ‘stay a little while’. The first sign of a change of heart was the purchase of a property ringed by red gums and with a natural wetland dotted with Ottelia ovalifolia, a native water lily. They still live in the house they built there. John worked as winemaker at Rymill Coonawarra while Melissa established a restaurant. After 20 years, John left Rymill to focus on consultancy work throughout the Limestone Coast and to establish and run Ottelia. -JAMES HALLIDAY
