Wynns Coonawarra Estate's 2023 Wynnsday release has arrived. The collection is headlined by the 66th vintage of one of Australia’s most collectable wines, Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon, and sees the return of the Black Label Old Vines Shiraz made predominantly from two of the winery’s oldest vineyards.
Wynns senior winemaker Sue Hodder says the 2023 collection represents a deep understanding of the true terra rossa soils of Wynns Coonawarra Estate from the classic 2021 Coonawarra vintage that will go down in history.

The 2023 Wynnsday premium release includes:
2021 Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon
Wynns Black Label Cabernet is a true icon of Australian wine. First produced in 1954, Black Label Cabernet has a reputation for ageing gracefully and displaying excellent varietal and regional characteristics. In 2021, 25 terra rossa vineyards were selected as worthy of the Black Label. Plush fruit up front, raspberry and plum are complemented by subtle fragrant oak at the back palate, leading to a clean fine finish. RRP $44.99
2021 Wynns Black Label Old Vines Shiraz
Wynns Black Label Shiraz is a superb example of Coonawarra’s cool-climate style. Wynns is privileged to grow shiraz on many prime locations within Coonawarra. The Black Label Shiraz is selected from the oldest of them, including the Undoolya vineyard, which was planted in between 1894–1897, and the Johnson’s Block, planted in 1925. The average vine age is 75 years. This is a classic medium-bodied shiraz, fine and silky, with crunchy black pepper and delicate spiced pastry notes. RRP $44.99
2021 Wynns Glengyle Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Each vintage, the Wynns team selects one single cabernet vineyard to bottle separately. In 2021 they chose the Glengyle vineyard just north of V&A Lane. Glengyle is a fragment of John Riddoch’s original block 474. It was planted on its own roots with pre-clonal cabernet sauvignon in 1969 and is now renowned as an early ripening vineyard in the heart of the terra rossa soil. The flavours are beautifully fresh, echoing crunchy red berries and intriguing gentle florals. RRP $79.99
2021 Wynns V&A Lane Shiraz
V&A Lane is a long, straight road that dissects Coonawarra’s famous terra rossa strip at its midpoint. The mature shiraz vineyards along V&A Lane ripen early and are among the first picked each season. Sarah Pidgeon has crafted elegant and ripe shiraz to showcase a modern, fresh red fruit spectrum, food-friendly style. Bright cherry and blueberry complement more savoury elements of stalks, pastry, and spice. The pure fruits flow through to lingering crushed pepper and a biscuity finish. RRP $59.99
2021 Wynns V&A Lane Cabernet Shiraz
The cabernet vineyards from V&A Lane have been important contributors to Wynns’ top wines for many years. The inspiration for the V&A Lane Cabernet Shiraz comes from the Wynns ‘claret story’ that dates to the 1950s, where wines were made to a style rather than being about exact proportions. The grapes are now harvested on the same day and then co-fermented creating a layered style, while a purposely early harvest highlights a fresh, red fruit spectrum and naturally lower alcohol. RRP $59.99The 2023 Wynnsday Collection is now available from wynns.com.au and fine wine retailers across Australia.
