Spring Bay Distillery Solera Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky
Solera is Spring Bay's most affordable single malt whisky – a combination of both French and American oak casks that have been blended over time via gravity feed through a solera system of 500L puncheons. The final two casks in the system were previously filled with Australian muscat, thereby imparting an extra layer of fortified wine richness to this whisky. On the nose, that fortified wine has a lovely perfumed fruitiness, with waves of apricot jam and well-integrated oak. Soft and sweet up front on the palate, with lingering oak, there’s a lot to love here, although it's just a touch hot and dry through the finish. But this is still a nice dram and, if you like the complex fruit aromas of fortified wine without overbearing sweetness, this is a great choice.
