Our Review
After a peripatetic journey in his youth working in Canada then NZ learning about wine, a still-young James Turpie ended up in the Hunter Valley in ’20 at Oakvale/M&J Becker wineries. In ’21, he set up his label with one wine – a Tumbarumba chardonnay (James’ middle name is Edward, named after his grandfather, so the brand, in part, is an homage). His fledging business now includes a gewürztraminer and pinot noir plus Hunter Valley shiraz, Gundagai chenin blanc, and he also makes pét-nat. He hopes to build a cellar door in the right region one day. Until then, a young producer to watch. -JANE FAULKNER
