Saint Oaks Estate Vineyard

Real estate agent Chris, and wife Sue, Weston, purchased a block of land in 1996 with a dual frontage to Beasley and Wenzel Roads in Oakbank that had been in family ownership for three generations. Three years later the Westons planted 4.7ha of pinot noir, 4.7ha of sauvignon blanc and 2.9ha of shiraz. The grapes were sold, their quality leading to the planting of 3.8ha of French clone chardonnay on adjacent land acquired in '15, and Simon Greenleaf, of the Small Batch Wine Specialist at Lobethal, making Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc from a small part of the crop withheld from sale. -JAMES HALLIDAY
