Our Review
In 2017, Shenzhen-based Jia Yuan Hua Wines bought the 24.3ha Max’s Vineyard in Gods Hill Road, Lyndoch at the southern end of the Barossa Valley. Tony Carapetis was brought onboard as chief winemaker and the Monteperle wines made their debut at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in ’19. Grenache, shiraz, mataro and cabernet sauvignon are planted in the vineyard and the range features a GSM and Reserve offerings of each of the grape varieties where they present rich, classically structured Barossa wines focussing on the premium end of the market. With a production of 60,000 bottles a year, China would have obviously been the primary market for these wines but they are available in Australia in select outlets. -DAVE BROOKES
