Torambre Wines

This is an unusual business, to say the least. Tony Saunders and Marino and Deb Gregoric have set up a cellar door in a World War II Nissen hut, much refurbished and air-conditioned, but nonetheless a reminder of the hellish conditions soldiers in the Second World War had to endure even when not in battle. It is also unusual in being an estate-based operation, with 24.5ha of chardonnay, verdelho, grenache, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, shiraz and mataro, this in a region noted for broadacre farming and vast wineries. -JAMES HALLIDAY
