A jewel in the Brown Family Wine Group’s crown, Pirie’s foundations were built on good stock when it was first established by Dr Andrew Pirie in 1999. In 2010, the Tamar Valley based brand (alongside Tamar Ridge) was sold to BFWG, and no expense has been spared since. The region can produce exceptional sparkling; the Late Disgorged and Millésime Prestige range – the pinnacle of the luxury offering – pleads the case exceedingly well. Alongside considered viticultural practices – composting, recycling water resources and careful cover crop selection and management- at their estate-owned Kayena vineyards, the wines are made by Tom Wallace with the leadership of sparkling superstar extraordinaire Cate Looney. -KATRINA BUTLER
