Trofeo Estate

Victoria | Mornington Peninsula

Our Review

This property has had a chequered history, from failed passionfruit farm in the 1930s to a vineyard planted by the Seppelt family in the '40s and later acquired by leading Melbourne wine retailer and wine judge, the late Doug Seabrook. The vines were destroyed in a bushfire in ’67 and not replanted until ’98. From there, it passed through several hands and various stages of neglect until the latest owner, Jim Manolios, developed the property as a restaurant, vineyard and winery with pinot noir, chardonnay, pinot gris, shiraz and cabernet sauvignon grown using organic and biodynamic principles. All Trofeo Estate wines are matured in terracotta amphorae imported from Chianti, Italy. -JAMES HALLIDAY

Trofeo Estate is the biggest producer of Terracotta Wines in the Southern Hemisphere. Specialising in cool climate varieties including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Shiraz, they are fermented and matured in hand made Terracotta Amphora, imported from Tuscany.
