Our Review
Joan and William (whom I have always called Bill) Christophersen began the slow process of establishing Strathewen Hills in 1991. The vineyard was established with ultra-close spacing, with 3 ha planted predominantly to pinot noir, chardonnay, shiraz, merlot and small amounts of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and a few bits and pieces, but frost caused persistent losses until protective sprinklers were installed. Since then a series of high-quality small volume wines have been made. -JAMES HALLIDAY
